Homeschoolers Should Take College Courses While Still at Home

Take College Courses
What better way is there to get experience in college then to take a college course?

Check with a local technical college and go over their admissions requirements. In Tech schools (while it is not a good idea to generalize) these admissions requirements are usually pretty lenient and odds are you can get in with no trouble.

Go through the admissions process (which I’ll go over a little later) and register for a basic transfer course of your preference, like English 101, History 101, a foreign language or a math course. The major advantage to this is that you are simultaneously taking a course for high school credit and for college credit. For every college course you take while in high school, you do not have to take while you are in college.

I think there are two different schools of thought about which college courses to take while still in high school. You could take a course you know you’ll find difficult and then really focus on it since it is your only college level course. Or, you could take a course you would be very confident in and use the experience to get used to college. Again, this is a manner of personal preference. You might even check with an advisor while you are registering for your college level course and ask for advice. They will likely be glad to tell you what a good course would be for a homeschool high schooler.
