Professors Treat all Instructors with respect Remember, no matter how much or how little they know about the subject, they are the one with a degree and the one with authority. You need to treat them with respect whether or not you like them, or whether or not you respect them.
Also, watch the kind of things you say about your professors when just talking to other students. First of all, you might incorrectly affect another student’s opinion of an instructor. Or, even worse, your statements might find their way back to the instructor. The wisest thing is to not say anything derogatory about the professors and then you have nothing to worry about.
Be friendly and ask your questions Whether you ask questions in class or outside of class, do not be afraid to ask your questions.
First of all, odds are someone else has the same question but is too shy to ask. Furthermore, the professor’s job is to make you learn things, so if you are asking questions, you are making them do their job.
Remember, your job is to learn from them so do your best to learn from what they tell you. If you do not understand, keep pursuing the understanding. You would only be cheating yourself by refusing to learn something simply because your instructor did not explain it the clearest the first time around. If you need to get extra tutoring or do extra homework, than pursue those options.
Differentiate between opinion and fact Your teachers are generally supposed to be teaching you facts. Be wary of teachers that give their opinions, whether you agree with them or not. Not that their opinions are bad but you just need to be aware and be able to differentiate between opinions and facts. Instructors are human and will probably let their own opinions slip into their lectures more times than they realize.
Just make sure that you are only required to learn the facts of something and not the instructor’s opinion. If your instructor wants you to learn too much of their opinion, than you should definitely consider having a frank discussion with that instructor or a discussion with one of their superiors. |
