Homeschoolers Need To Know How to Deal with Professors

Professors

You will likely hear rumors
Spend some time at any college campus and you will undoubtedly hear horror stories of various professors and their ridiculous grading schemes.

I will let you in on a little secret- sometimes people exaggerate a little bit when telling a story. (I hope you can sense the tiny bit of sarcasm I added there, but it really is the truth.) If you spend too much time listening to other students talk about professors, you will often hear how impossibly hard someone is, or how incredibly easy someone else is. I encourage you to take these opinions with a grain of salt and not draw your own opinion before you have dealt with that person yourself.

What kind of professors are out there?
In my experience, there are three major categories of professors and three difficulty levels.

First, there are the nice and friendly instructors. These instructors tend to be much more amicable, especially in dealing and conversing with students. I really do believe that these instructors make up the majority of instructors.

Second, there are the indifferent, slightly air headed instructors. These are the instructors, who, while not necessarily nice or mean, tend to not always have the greatest idea of their subject. Even if they do know the subject like the back of their hand, they might have a little bit of trouble in explaining or teaching that subject. In fact, they might often be distracted and can run long in rabbit trails during their lectures. These instructors are definitely a minority.

Thirdly, there are instructors who are either more interested in doing research or who have some kind of personality defect. These definitely are in the minority. Unfortunately there just are a small amount of professors who just come across as not very friendly.

Finally all instructors basically come in three difficulties, easy, normal and hard. You could have a very friendly instructor who has the hardest class you have ever taken, or you might have an unfriendly teacher with an easy class.
