One of the unique aspects of online
education is that it works so well with those who want to continue
their education but don’t have time to attend a university full time.
For homeschoolers in particular, this means that a parent might be able
to pursue a bachelor’s degree online while homeschooling their child
(or children). Or, say you already have your bachelor’s degree, you
could pursue your master’s degree online.
I personally think that online
education is slightly better suited for a master’s degree than it is
for general college education. If you have the desire to pursue your
master’s degree online, you already have your bachelor’s degree,
meaning you have the college experience under your belt already and you
aren’t fresh out of high school. Furthermore, online master’s degrees
(and other master’s programs for that matter) are more focused, and
there isn’t the need to worry about general educational things at the
graduate degree level (which are not necessarily so well suited to the
online educational world).
For example, a high school graduate
pursuing a college education might be able to do that online, sure, but
it’s going to be more difficult than a college graduate focusing on a
specific graduate study while pursuing a master’s degree education
online. In some ways, even though you have the coursework and an
instructor, with the online educational system you are basically
responsible for teaching yourself. This kind of system is going to work
better for a graduate student who already has a background in the chose
field of study as opposed to a younger student who is learning entirely
new things.
Back to the homeschooling angle,
though, online education offers a unique chance for homeschooling
parents to educate themselves side by side while educating their
children. I think it’s a unique opportunity for homeschooling parents
to have an educational experience that parallels that of their
students.
So check out the programs for bachelor’s or master’s degree online. You may be glad you did it.
