Office Personnel
When entering college and registering you will deal with a variety of office personnel. Like every other set of people, some will be friendly, some will be indifferent, and some will act like they have a personal vendetta against your family. Always do your best to treat them with respect regardless of the situation. It can never hurt to be friendly with the people who run the offices.
The way I see it, office personnel will not necessarily go out of their way to make your life easier, but it would not be hard for them to make things much more difficult for you. Always be patient with these people, they have probably been dealing with students all day and are probably not going to respond well if you treat them with anything but respect.
If you truly are being treated unfairly and you are going to justifiably get angry with someone, make sure you are talking to someone who has the power to change things before you waste your time getting mad.
In my own experience, one time I was being sent from office to office to get something taken care of. Finally, I just stayed in one office until the vice president (or whomever was in charge of that office) came out and talked to me. After writing a note and putting his initials on it he sent me on my way. His authority from that one office let me happily breeze through the other offices without any further trouble. All this happened without anyone getting angry, it was just a matter of talking to the right person. |
