Google Adwords In overly simple terms these ads are referred to as 'Pay Per Click' advertising. You basically bid on words that are related to your web site. The higher you bid, the higher you will place in the list of ads. With 'Pay Per Click' ads, you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. The use of Google Adwords is much more complicated and can be very profitable but can also be very expensive if you don't know what you are doing. Two of the most well known authors of e-books on Google Adwords are Perry Marshall and Chris Carpenter. Either one gives a good primer on Adwords. Google does not say what the split is, but most people surmise it is about 50%. Since some Google Adwords are very popular, some top competition ads go for $10, $20 or more. Although some only go for a few cents, many people make fortunes by properly building web sites optimized to show these Google Adsense ads. He is a very practical guy with a lot of down to earth ideas. Starting a Nursery or Internet Business I think Mike is a "meter reader" by trade, but his wife and himself have their own plant/tree/garden nursery. One of his specialties is growing 'starter' trees for sale. Each Spring they literally sell thousands of dollars worth of trees and other things. He has a web site dedicated to his garden business. He has tons of free information on his site, a very informative newsletter and a bunch of other stuff. He then wanted to get into the internet business. He basically started from zilch, i.e., knowing very little about the Internet. He started reading and trying things and now is quite profitable on the Internet side of things too.
